The Canadian rodeo community is mourning the loss of Dusty LaValley, a four-time Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) Bareback Riding Champion and Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer, who passed away on August 2, 2026, at the age of 45 following a courageous years-long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Throughout his remarkable career, LaValley competed in 13 Canadian Finals Rodeos (CFR) and captured CPRA Bareback Riding championships in 2006, 2007, 2010, and 2011. His achievements extended internationally as he qualified twice for the prestigious National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in 2008 and 2010, competing against some of the best bareback riders in the world.

Beyond his championship titles and professional accomplishments, Dusty was admired for his character, humility, and sportsmanship. Friends, fellow cowboys, and fans remember him as someone who represented the true spirit of rodeo through his respect for others, dedication to his craft, and willingness to inspire those around him.
